Dawn Lizard shares its glowing, translucent magenta-red and purple body with Morning Dawn, one of the most highly sought-after Megabass finishes. But Dawn Lizard adds pale silver tiger-stripe barring, and pairs it with the Megabass reptilian slit-pupil “lizard eye” – the detail that actually gives this version its name. Rather than a standard Megabass catalog release, Dawn Lizard came out of a limited shop run through Hook Up Tackle USA, one of a small group of US retailers Megabass works with on exclusive custom colors sold in short supply and snapped up quickly by collectors.
That translucent, light-catching body is the same feature that makes Morning Dawn effective in clear water against pressured fish, letting light pass through the lure rather than reflecting off a solid painted surface. The added tiger-striped flanks on Dawn Lizard gives it a slightly more visible silhouette than the plainer original, which makes it worth trying in the same clear-water conditions as Morning Dawn but also in slightly lower light or faintly stained water, where that extra bit of pattern helps fish pick the lure out without losing the glow that made the base color popular in the first place.
