HT Tobiuo

HT Tobiuo (Flying Fish) is a masterclass in JDM “Match the Hatch” engineering, specifically developed for the long-standing Megabass collaboration with Yamaha Marine. Built on the Megabass HT (Half Tone) style, this color moves away from the traditional flashy Guanium finishes in favor of a ghost-like, clear resin body. This transparency is critical for its namesake; by utilizing a clear base, the 3D-effect translucent “wings” printed on the flanks appear to hover independently of the lure’s body, perfectly mimicking the glass-like membranes of a real flying fish about to skip across the saltwater chop.

This color achieved legendary status among collectors when it was featured as a centerpiece in the 2004 YAMAHA by Megabass ito ENGINEERING (7th edition) lure set. Unlike the standard retail runs, this 7th Edition release was part of a coordinated effort to provide Yamaha’s coastal anglers with specialized “Saltwater Gear” that could withstand high-visibility conditions. Because it was distributed within these exclusive sets or through Yamaha Marine dealerships in Japan, the HT Tobiuo remains one of the rarest “winged” Onetens in existence, serving as a permanent record of the era when Yuki Ito’s design philosophy met Yamaha’s maritime legacy.
