The Frozen Shad is a revered color in the Megabass lineage, first introduced in 2009 for the Area Trout Limited series, featuring on models like the Baby Griffon and LIVE-X Smolt. This distinct color is built on a simple yet highly refined palette: a base of light blue pearl across the body, capped with a smokey black back, and finished with a full matte coat. The official Megabass Factory team emphasizes that despite the simple color combination, great care is taken in painting to ensure the fine particles of the pearl coat shimmer beautifully under the matte finish. This combination creates a lure with high presence, excellent water integration, and a subtle, lively vitality prized by collectors for its unique non-gloss aesthetic.
The application of the Frozen Shad pattern is strategically designed for tough, challenging fishing environments. Originally conceived for highly pressured area trout, the color translates perfectly to targeting bass and other predatory fish in similar “tough field” conditions. Its pale, pearlescent base acts as an expansion color, appealing over a wide area, which makes it particularly effective in large reservoirs, rivers, and stain-to-murky water conditions, such as those following heavy rain.
