Northern Secret

Northern Secret is a “ghost-style” masterpiece specifically engineered for the high-visibility requirements of Great Lakes and Canadian smallmouth fishing. It features a transparent, water-clear body that allows it to virtually disappear when static, but it is defined by a “secret” internal paint job – a vibrant, hidden chartreuse core or belly stripe that is painted on the inside of the lure. This creates a mesmerizing flicker-effect where the lure looks completely natural on the pause, but emits a sudden, electric flash of neon the moment it slashes or rolls. For collectors, it is often referred to as a “Canadian Secret” color, as it was originally developed as a limited regional run for the Northern market, until recently making it a hard-to-find gem in the Vision Oneten line-ups.

Technically, Northern Secret is the ultimate finesse-trigger for ultra-clear water with visibility exceeding 10 feet. Because the chartreuse is internal, the lure doesn’t have the aggressive, over-the-top profile of a solid-colored chartreuse-back style bait; instead, the flash is momentary and serves as a predatory trigger rather than a warning. In application, it is best worked with a high-speed, erratic retrieve with very short pauses. The sudden “on-off” nature of the internal chartreuse flash mimics the belly-roll of a fleeing emerald shiner or cisco, which is a specific biological trigger for deep-water smallmouth. It is especially effective on sunny days when the light can penetrate the clear body to illuminate the internal paint, giving it a depth of color that surface-painted lures simply cannot match.
