Aesthetically, PM Ochi Ayu (Pearl Mica Ochi Ayu) is a masterful representation of the “fallen” sweetfish, a biological stage where the vibrant yellows of summer fade into the bruised, darker tones of autumn. The PM finish provides a solid, pearlescent mica base that offers a soft, milky glow rather than a harsh metallic flash. This is accented by a deep olive or dusky purple back and the signature “Ochi” (fallen) markings – typically a faint, weary yellow patch near the gill plate that appears more muted than the bright “PM Setsuki Ayu” version. Its cross-line-up presence is unique; while it is a staple in the Freshwater bass series for its realism, it has also been a cornerstone of the Saltwater (SW) line-up, particularly in the “Kawsuzuki” (River Seabass) special editions, where the pearl-base excels at mimicking baitfish moving through brackish estuaries.
Technically, the PM Ochi Ayu is an elite choice for transitional seasons and “match-the-hatch” scenarios in both environments. In freshwater, it is the premier application for the Vision Oneten or Lates during the fall when real Ayu are weakening and drifting downstream, providing a non-threatening, easy-to-target silhouette. In the saltwater lineup, the Pearl Mica finish is utilized as a “visibility bridge” – it is opaque enough to be seen in the turbulent, tea-colored water of tidal rivers, yet natural enough to fool wary Seabass in clear, shallow flats. For the most effective application, use a slow, dead-sticking retrieve or a lazy wobbling roll; the PM finish’s ability to catch ambient light without blinking makes it look like a dying fish struggling against the current, a trigger that works universally from inland lakes to coastal estuaries.
